The Dominican Republic hosts significant gold resources and reserves, which currently stand at around 31Moz, or around a third of global gold production of 3,000t (96Moz) last year (based on US Geological Survey data). But getting that gold into production is a major challenge.

The history of the Dominican Republic has deep running roots based on the gold and mining industry. Today there is a growing mining and exploration community made up of many explorers and three major mining companies.
